Acetic acid bacteria such as Gluconobacter oxydans are used in several biotechnological processes due to their ability to perform rapid incomplete regio- and stereo-selective oxidations of a great variety of carbohydrates, alcohols, and related compounds by their membrane-bound dehydrogenases.
