Abstract We discuss the construction of the physical configuration space for Yang-Mills quantum mechanics and Yang-Mills theory on a cylinder. We explicitly eliminate the redundant degrees of freedom by either fixing a gauge or introducing gauge invariant variables. Both methods are shown to be equivalent if the Gribov problem is treated properly and the necessary boundary identifications on the Gribov horizon are performed. In addition, we analyze the significance of non-generic configurations… Expand

Instantons and Gribov copies in the maximally Abelian gauge
Abstract We calculate the Faddeev–Popov operator corresponding to the maximally Abelian gauge for gauge group SU(N) . Specializing to SU(2) we look for explicit zero modes of this operator. Within anExpand

Inequivalent quantizations of Yang-Mills theory on a cylinder
Abstract Yang-Mills theories on a (1+1)-dimensional cylinder are considered. It is shown that canonical quantization can proceed following different routes, leading to inequivalent quantizations. TheExpand
Yang-Mills fields and Riemannian geometry

Quantization of non-Abelian gauge theories
Abstract It is shown that the fixing of the divergence of the potential in non-Abelian theories does not fix its gauge. The ambiguity in the definition of the potential leads to the fact that, whenExpand
