The cells of origin for the hypoglossal afferent nerves of the cat and their central projections were examined using the transganglionic and somatopetal transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Primary afferent neurons from the hypoglossal nerve were located in the trigeminal ganglion, the superior ganglion of glossopharyngeal and vagal nerves, and the first 3 cervical ganglia.
