There is an abundance of research investigating patient satisfaction. However, few studies have addressed patient satisfaction by comparing patients' expectations of nursing care with the care they actually received. This qualitative study explores both cardiac surgical patients' preconceptions and expectations of nursing care in the intensive care unit (ICU) and their actual experience of nursing care while in the unit.
