Abstract Cardiac surgery was revolutionized on November 29, 1944, when Eileen Saxon underwent the first systemic-to-pulmonary artery shunt at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, United States of America. Heparin-Coated Grafts Reduce Mortality in Pediatric Patients Receiving Systemic-to-Pulmonary Shunts

In this study, pediatric patients receiving HC PTFE grafts in SP shunts demonstrated significantly lower shunt-related mortality and the majority of HC grafts remained patent.
