It is shown that the evening enhancements of electron concentration observed at Millstone Hill (43°N, 72°W) are not caused by a decrease in the electron temperature, but are a consequence of thermospheric winds. Very little effect is produced at the F-layer peak by the rapid decrease in electron temperature at sunset, but above the peak the electron temperature collapse is accompanied by a redistribution of the ionization in such a way that the enhancement produced by the winds occurs approx… CONTINUE READING
