Abstract Submicronic amorphous carbon particles have been studied in the near-and middle-infrared at room temperature and their properties measured. Two different production methods have been used: (a) arc striking in an argon controlled atmosphere; (b) burning of hydrocarbons in air. TEM analysis allows determination of grain morphology and size distributions.
