The absolute stereostructures of the hallucinogenic diterpenes salvinorin A and B have been unambiguously determined by the use of the non-empirical exciton chirality circular dichroism method on their 1α,2α-diol dibenzoate derivative.

First Total Synthesis of the Neo-Clerodane Diterpenoid Salvinorin F

The total synthesis of the neoclerodane diterpenoid salvinorin F was accomplished for the first time.

Studies towards the synthesis of Salvinorin A

Salvinorin A 1, a psychoactive neoclerodane diterpenoid from the Mexican sage S. divinorum, has gained interest as a selective κ-opioid receptor agonist. Non-racemic 3-furylamines 9a and 9b have been

Natural Products from the Hallucinogenic Sage

The isolation, structures and biological activity of the neoclerodane and other natural products obtained from the Mexican hallucinogenic sage, Salvia divinorum are reviewed.

Salvinorin C, a new neoclerodane diterpene from a bioactive fraction of the hallucinogenic Mexican mint Salvia divinorum.

Its structure was elucidated on the basis of extensive proton and C-13 NMR experiments, as well as by comparison of the NMR data with those of the mono- and diacetate derivatives 5-7 of the major NaBH(4)-reduction product of salvinorin A (2).

Neoclerodane diterpenes as a novel scaffold for mu opioid receptor ligands.

A nonnitrogenous neoclerodane diterpene with mu opioid receptor affinity that is an agonist at mu opioid receptors is reported, which represents the identification of a novel structural class of mu opioids receptor agonists.

Synthesis and in vitro pharmacological studies of new C(2) modified salvinorin A analogues.
