We present the results of a detailed UV-optical study of the nearby dwarf starburst galaxy NGC 4214 using multifilter Hubble Space Telescope WFPC2 and STIS photometry. The stellar extinction is found to be quite patchy, with some areas having values of E(4405 - 5495) < 0.1 mag and others, associated with star-forming regions, much more heavily obscured, a result that is consistent with previous studies of the nebular extinction. We determined the ratio of blue to red supergiants and found it to…
Resolved photometry of young massive clusters in the starburst galaxy NGC 4214
ABSTRACT We present the results of deep high resolution imaging performed withACS/HRC@HST in the most active region of the nearby starburst galaxy NGC 4214.We resolved the stellar populations of five
THE YOUNG STELLAR POPULATION OF THE NEARBY LATE-TYPE GALAXY NGC 1311
We have extracted point-spread-function-fitted stellar photometry from near-ultraviolet, optical, and near-infrared images, obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope, of the nearby (D ≈ 5.5 Mpc) SBm
AN INITIAL MASS FUNCTION STUDY OF THE DWARF STARBURST GALAXY NGC 4214
The production rate of ionizing photons in young (⩽8 Myr), unresolved stellar clusters in the nearby irregular galaxy NGC 4214 is probed using multi-wavelength Hubble Space Telescope WFC3 data. We
THE ANTENNAE GALAXIES (NGC 4038/4039) REVISITED: ADVANCED CAMERA FOR SURVEYS AND NICMOS OBSERVATIONS OF A PROTOTYPICAL MERGER
The Advanced Camera for Surveys and the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS) have been used to obtain new Hubble Space Telescope images of NGC 4038/4039 (“The Antennae”). These
The 100 Myr star formation history of NGC 5471 from cluster and resolved stellar photometry
We show that star formation in the giant H ii region NGC 5471 has been ongoing during the past 100 Myr. Using Hubble Space Telescope/Wide-Field Planetary Camera 2 F547M and F675W, ground-based JHKs,
THE MASSIVE STAR POPULATION IN M101. II. SPATIAL VARIATIONS IN THE RECENT STAR FORMATION HISTORY
We investigate star formation history (SFH) as a function of radius in M101 using archival Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys photometry. We derive the SFH from the resolved stellar
MAPPING THE RECENT STAR FORMATION HISTORY OF THE DISK OF M51
Using data acquired as part of a unique Hubble Heritage imaging program of broadband colors of the interacting spiral system M51/NGC 5195, we have conducted a photometric study of the stellar
A close look at the Centaurus A group of galaxies III. Recent star formation histories of late-type dwarfs around M83
We study the resolved stellar populations of dwarf galaxies in the nearby Centaurus A/M83 group of galaxies. Our goal is to characterize their evolutionary history and to investigate eventual
The galaxy-wide initial mass function of dwarf late-type to massive early-type galaxies
Observational studies are showing that the galaxy-wide stellar initial mass function are top-heavy in galaxies with high star-formation rates (SFRs). Calculating the integrated galactic stellar
The dust SED of dwarf galaxies - I. The case of NGC 4214
Context. The dust properties in dwarf galaxies have been a matter of debate. High resolution data from SPITZER, HERSCHEL and PLANCK allow us to probe the entire spectral energy distribution (SED) of
