A well-worn paradigm in retailers evolve from low differentiation, low margin operations to high differentiation, high margin operations. This study utilizes archival data from the Internet auction site eBay to determine whether the pattern of development proposed by the Wheel of Retailing holds for business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce practitioners.
