The VizieR database of astronomical catalogues

title={The VizieR database of astronomical catalogues},
author={Françoise Ochsenbein and Patricia Bauer and J. Marcout},
  journal={Astronomy \& Astrophysics Supplement Series},
VizieR is a database grouping in an homoge- neous way thousands of astronomical catalogues gath- ered for decades by the Centre de Donn ees de Strasbourg (CDS) and participating institutes. The history and cur- rent status of this large collection is briefly presented, and the way these catalogues are being standardized to t in the VizieR system is described. The architecture of the database is then presented, with emphasis on the man- agement of links and of accesses to very large catalogues…

Strasbourg Astronomical Data Center (CDS)

The next frontiers for CDS are the new Web 2.0/3.0 paradigm and, at a more general level, global interoperability of astronomical on-line resources in the Virtual Observatory framework.

From your Paper to VizieR and SIMBAD

Scientific results strongly rely on previous studies, experiments, and observations. A huge quantity of data is produced by astronomers and needs to be available to the whole community. To support

Information integration and retrieval: the CDS hub

The Centre de Donnees astronomiques de Strasbourg develops a set of value-added services, widely used for information retrieval, observation preparation, data interpretation, etc, which integrate heterogeneous selected information from observatory archives, sky surveys and publications.

VizieR catalogue system certified by the Data Seal of Approval

The VizieR information system is based on accurate data documentation provided by specialists and the data life cycle from ingestion to access and preservation is presented, with reference to the Open Archive Information System.

Bibliography, catalogs, pixel data: Management of heterogeneous Big Data at CDS by the documentalists

It is shown that structuring the data using HiPS enables easy and quick access to large and complex sets of astronomical data, and documentalists contribute to a long-term management of complex, large astronomical data.

Safeguarding Old and New Journal Tables for the VO: Status for Extragalactic and Radio Data

The current efforts within the Virtual Observatory project, to provide retrieval and analysis tools for different types of published and archival data stored at various sites, should be balanced by an equal effort to recover and include large amounts of published data not currently available in this way.

The algorithm designed to efficient coordinate cross-match of objects in the modern massive astronomical catalogues using the multithreading of the modern computing processors allows speeding up the program up to read-write data to the storage.

Associated data: Indexation, discovery, challenges and roles

Providing librarians with efficient tools to index this data and generate the relevant metadata is therefore paramount.

An Efficient Retrieval Method for Astronomical Catalog Time Series Data

An automatic and efficient retrieval method for astronomical catalog time series data is proposed, which labeled a unique MatchID for each record matched with the datum catalog and an in-memory index structure based on Redis is specially designed, which enables matching speed 1.67 times faster than that of MySQL in massive amounts of data.

The VizieR System for Accessing Astronomical Data

The recently reshaped VizieR system, a unified query interface to an increasing number of catalogs (presently ∼ 1500), is presented. 1. Historical Background VizieR was first presented at the AAS
