The Use of Per-fluorocarbons as Alternatives to Ozone-Depleting Compounds

Abstract

The accelerated phase-out of ozone-depleting compounds and product labeling requirements have heightened the urgency for switching to acceptable alternatives. There are numerous ozone-depleting compound replacement applications where the combination of properties of pet-fluorocarbon liquids make them the preferred alternative based on perfomarance, safety, and environmental considerations. However, they will be best suited to specialized applications due to their relatively high cost and limited solubility for hydrocarbon soils.
