The Universe as a Quantum Encoder

Quantum mechanical unitarity in our universe is challenged both by the notion of the big bang, in which nothing transforms into something, and the expansion of space, in which something transforms into more something. This motivates the hypothesis that quantum mechanical time evolution is always isometric, in the sense of preserving inner products, but not necessarily unitary. As evidence for this hypothesis we show that in two spacetime dimensions (i) there is net entanglement entropy produced…

Emergent metric space-time from matrix theory

Abstract The IKKT matrix model yields an emergent space-time. We further develop these ideas and give a proposal for an emergent metric. Based on previous numerical studies of this model, we provide

EPR and Linear GUP

Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen found that the non-simultaneous reality of position and momentum implies that we cannot consider quantum mechanics a complete theory of physical reality. We show that

EPR and Linear GUP: Completeness

Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen (EPR) found that the non-simultaneous reality of position and momentum implies that we cannot consider quantum mechanics a complete theory of physical reality. We show

Holographic local operator quenches in BCFTs

We present a gravity dual of local operator quench in a two-dimensional CFT with conformal boundaries. This is given by a massive excitation in a three-dimensional AdS space with the end of the world

Hyperbolic Lattice for Scalar Field Theory in AdS$_3$

: We construct a tessellation of AdS 3 , by extending the equilateral triangulation of AdS 2 on the Poincar´e disk based on the (2 , 3 , 7) triangle group, suitable for studying strongly coupled

A proposal for solving the cosmological constant problem

Recently, we used a reinterpretation of the generalized uncertainty principle as an effective variation of the Planck constant (Phys. Lett. B 831 (2022) 137182). In this letter, we show that the

Unitarity problems for an effective field theory description of early universe cosmology

In the context of Effective Field Theory, the Hilbert space of states increases in an expanding universe. Hence, the time evolution cannot be unitary. The formation of structure is usually studied

Geometric interpretation of the multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz

The multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA) is a tensor network representation for ground states of critical quantum spin chains, with a network that extends in an additional dimension

De Sitter Space as a Tensor Network: Cosmic No-Hair, Complementarity, and Complexity

We investigate the proposed connection between de Sitter spacetime and the multiscale entanglement renormalization ansatz (MERA) tensor network, and ask what can be learned via such a construction.

Quantum causal influence

A bstractWe introduce a framework to study the emergence of time and causal structure in quantum many-body systems. In doing so, we consider quantum states which encode spacetime dynamics, and

Quantization of systems with temporally varying discretization I: Evolving Hilbert spaces

An according formalism for constrained variational discrete systems is constructed and the dynamics of the quantum states is generated by propagators which satisfy the canonical constraints and are constructed using the action and group averaging projectors.

The energy-momentum tensor is calculated in the two dimensional quantum theory of a massless scalar field influenced by the motion of a perfectly reflecting boundary (mirror). This simple model

Holographic quantum error-correcting codes: toy models for the bulk/boundary correspondence

That bulk logical operators can be represented on multiple boundary regions mimics the Rindlerwedge reconstruction of boundary operators from bulk operators, realizing explicitly the quantum error-correcting features of AdS/CFT recently proposed in [1].

Holographic networks for (1+1)-dimensional de Sitter spacetime

The duality between quantum gravity theories in antide Sitter spacetime (AdS) in the semiclassical limit and strongly interacting conformal field theories (CFT) – the AdS/CFT correspondence – has

Quantization of systems with temporally varying discretization. II. Local evolution moves

It is shown that non-trivial local coarse graining moves entail a non-unitary projection of (physical) Hilbert spaces and Dirac observables defined on them and the implications for a Pachner move generated dynamics in simplicial quantum gravity models are commented on.

Lattice setup for quantum field theory in AdS2

Holographic Conformal Field Theories (CFTs) are usually studied in a limit where the gravity description is weakly coupled. By contrast, lattice quantum field theory can be used as a tool for doing
