Sixty male patients undergoing limb surgery were anaesthetised using a drawover technique with the Triservice apparatus. They were randomly allocated to receive trichloroethylene and one of three other volatile agents (halothane, enflurane or isoflurane) after thiopentone induction. Signs of inadequate anaesthesia were noted. The incidence of such signs was not significantly different in the three groups.
