Foreword The manufacture of the national prototypes of the kilogram and their two previous verifications were the subject of detailed reports published in Travaux et Me'moires du Bureau International des Poids et Mesures. These reports have proven to be extremely valuable, given the importance of the national prototypes in linking countries to the international prototype of the kilogram and thereby to the unit of mass in the Systkme International. The behaviour of platinum-iridium prototypes…

The following is a brief description of the roles of the national prototype kilograms in the dissemination of mass in the United States of America, and the implications for NIST mass calibration customers of the most recent recalibrations of K20 and K4.

Calibration campaign against the international prototype of the kilogram in anticipation of the redefinition of the kilogram, part II: evolution of the BIPM as-maintained mass unit from the 3rd periodic verification to 2014

In 2014 the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) carried out a calibration campaign using the international prototype of the kilogram (IPK). This is the second part in a series of

Calibration campaign against the international prototype of the kilogram in anticipation of the redefinition of the kilogram part I: comparison of the international prototype with its official copies

The results do not confirm the trend for the masses of the six official copies to diverge from the mass of the IPK that was observed during the 2nd and 3rd Periodic Verifications, but the mass comparisons showed a very good repeatability.

Following many years of intense investigations, leading to significant progress with the determination of fundamental constants, it is now likely that the General Conference for Weights and Measures

The revision of the SI—the result of three decades of progress in metrology

The new definitions of the base units used to create the rules of measurement and tie measurements at the atomic and quantum scales to those at the macroscopic level will allow the development of new and more accurate measurement techniques.

Establishment of the platinum–iridium kilogram mass standards at NMIJ after the Extraordinary Calibrations

The Bureau International des Poids et Mesures has carried out calibrations of the platinum–iridium kilogram mass standards by referencing the international prototype of the kilogram for the first

Monitoring of the Drift of the Pt–Ir Kilogram Prototypes of KRISS, Traceable to BIPM As-Maintained Mass Unit

The Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) announced recently that its as-maintained mass unit had been changed as the result of Extraordinary Calibration. Following that amendment, the

Considerations on future redefinitions of the kilogram, the mole and of other units

The definitions of some units of the Système International are likely to be revised as early as 2011 by basing them on fixed values of fundamental constants of nature, provided experimental
