High resolution N-body simulations show that the density profiles of dark matter halos formed in the standard CDM cosmogony can be fit accurately by scaling a simple “universal” profile. Regardless of their mass, halos are nearly isothermal over a large range in radius, but significantly shallower than r -2 near the center and steeper than r -2 in the outer regions. The characteristic overdensity of a halo correlates strongly with halo mass in a manner consistent with the mass dependence of the…
Dark Matter Scaling Relations
We investigate the structure of dark matter halos by means of the kinematics of a very large sample of spiral galaxies of all luminosities. The observed rotation curves show a universal profile which
Puzzling Outer-Density Profile of the Dark Matter Halo in the Andromeda Galaxy
The cold dark matter (CDM) cosmology, which is the standard theory of the structure formation in the universe, predicts that the outer density profile of dark matter halos decreases with the cube of
Merger versus Accretion and the Structure of Dark Matter Halos
High-resolution N-body simulations of hierarchical clustering in a wide variety of cosmogonies show that the density profiles of dark matter halos are universal, with low-mass halos being denser than
The dark matter distribution in disc galaxies
We use high-quality optical rotation curves of nine low-luminosity disc galaxies to obtain the velocity profiles of the surrounding dark matter haloes. We find that they increase linearly with radius
The Distribution of Dark Matter in Galaxies: The Core Radius Issue
I review the up-to-date status on the properties of the Dark Matter density distribution around Galaxies. The rotation curves of spirals all conform to a same Universal profile which can be uniquely
The Dark Matter Distributions in Low-mass Disk Galaxies. II. The Inner Density Profiles
Dark-matter-only simulations predict that dark matter halos have steep, cuspy inner density profiles, while observations of dwarf galaxies find a range of inner slopes that are often much shallower.
Simulating observations of dark matter dominated galaxies: towards the optimal halo profile
Low surface brightness galaxies are dominated by dark matter, and their rotation curves thus reflect their dark matter distribution. Recent high-resolution rotation curves suggest that their dark
The inner structure of ΛCDM haloes – III. Universality and asymptotic slopes
We investigate the mass profile of cold dark matter (ACDM) haloes using a suite of numerical simulations spanning five decades in halo mass, from dwarf galaxies to rich galaxy clusters. These haloes
A constant dark matter halo surface density in galaxies
TLDR
The recent finding that the central surface density 0Dr0ρ0 of galaxy dark matter halos, where r0 and ρ0 are the halo core radius and central density, is nearly constant and independent of galaxy luminosity is confirmed.
The inner structure of ΛCDM haloes – II. Halo mass profiles and low surface brightness galaxy rotation curves
We use a set of high-resolution cosmological N-body simulations to investigate the inner mass profile of galaxy-sized cold dark matter (CDM) haloes. These simulations extend the numerical convergence

Cold dark matter, the structure of galactic haloes and the origin of the Hubble sequence
A popular theory for galaxy formation holds that the Universe is dominated by exotic particles such as axions, photinos or gravitinos (collectively known as cold dark matter, CDM)1–3. This hypothesis
The massive halos of spiral galaxies
We use a sample of satellite galaxies to demonstrate the existence of extended massive dark halos around spiral galaxies. Isolated spirals with rotation velocities near 250 km/s have a typical halo
Simulations of X-ray clusters
We present simulations of the formation and evolution of galaxy clusters in the Cold Dark Matter cosmogony. Clusters with a wide range of mass were selected from previous N-body models, and were
