This paper presents an overview of ongoing work to develop a generic ontology design pattern for observation-based data on the Semantic Web. The core classes and relationships forming the pattern are discussed in detail and are aligned to the DOLCE foundational ontology to improve semantic interoperability and clarify the underlying ontological commitments. The pattern also forms the top-level of the the Semantic Sensor Network ontology developed by the W3C Semantic Sensor Network Incubator…

Short Paper: An Ontology Design Pattern for Spatial Data Quality Characterization in the Semantic Sensor Web
TLDR
The implementation of a software program over two scenarios demonstrates the usefulness of the ontology design pattern for the Semantic Sensor Web.
The SSN Ontology of the Semantic Sensor Networks Incubator Group
TLDR
The W3C Semantic Sensor Networks Incubator group (the SSN-XG), as one of its activities, produced an ontology to describe sensors and observations — the SSN ontology, which is described in this article.
The SSN ontology of the W3C semantic sensor network incubator group
What Now and Where Next for the W3C Semantic Sensor Networks Incubator Group Sensor Ontology
This short paper accompanies the keynote given at SSN'11. It reviews the initiation of the Semantic Sensor Networks Incubator Group and the ontology produced. Also, examples of the use of the
Ontology Alignment Architecture for Semantic Sensor Web Integration
TLDR
A system for ontology alignment in the Semantic Sensor Web which uses fuzzy logic techniques to combine similarity measures between entities of different ontologies, and results show that the proposed techniques outperform previous approaches in terms of precision and recall.
Extension of the Semantic Sensor Network Ontology for Wireless Sensor Networks: The Stimulus-WSNnode-Communication Pattern
TLDR
This paper will first integrate the different concepts related to WSN in the SSN ontology and then the resulting ontology is used, called Wireless Semantic Sensor Network ontology, in an agri-environmental scenario to illustrate the interest of the approach.

TLDR
New OWL ontologies for observations and sampling features, known as om-lite and sam-lite, minimize dependencies on elaborate pre-existing ontologies and frameworks, and can therefore be used to harmonize observational data with minimal ontological commitment beyond the conceptual model.
A pattern language for smart home applications
TLDR
The proposed SmartHome ontology is described in terms of its modules representing different aspects including physical and conceptual aspects of a smart environment, and the use of the Ontology Design Pattern (ODP) paradigm in order to modularize the solution.
The introduction of ontology model based on SSO design pattern to the intelligent space for home service robots
TLDR
The ontology is introduced to the intelligent space and the ontology model is constructed based on the SSO design pattern aligned to DUL and integrated with SSN to make the model more universal.

The proposed framework and the initial set of patterns are designed in order to function as a pipeline connecting domain modelling, user requirements, and ontology-driven tasks/queries to be executed.
Combining Process and Sensor Ontologies to Support Geo-Sensor Data Retrieval
TLDR
A combined approach is proposed which relates a sensor ontology to a process-centric domain ontology and hence takes into account how observation data was created and what types of features it relates refers to and hence supports sensor data retrieval.
