In this article, the inter-relationship between information systems (IS), systems engineering (SE), and information system development (ISD) is discussed from past, present, and future perspectives. While SE is relatively a well-established discipline based upon an interdisciplinary approach to enable the realization of successful systems, ISD has evolved to a variant of SE applied mainly for the development of IS. Given the growth in complexity and cost and schedule over-runs associated with…

The Relevance of Systems Methodologies in the Development of Organizational Systems

The dynamic hypothesis of a high correlation between GDP of Top 10 + Slovenia and R&D expressed by the above-mentioned variables is proved and a positive trend in the evolution of research methodologies, such as SE, ISD and OR, towards a Systems Approach and Simulation as a holistic methodology is found.

The Social Reality of Business Activity: A Contingent Methodology for Knowledge Elicitation and Mapping

A contingent methodology developed to combine soft systems methodology, causal cognitive mapping, and brainstorming to provide a set of knowledge requirements for policy makers within an Australian government agency appears to offer an effective platform for making sense of nonroutine, yet rigorous knowledge work.

Competitive Advantage of Knowledge Management

This article takes a fine-grained look at the connection between knowledge resources and competitive advantage, and develops a framework to address how critical knowledge areas can enable competitive advantage sources through customer approach and competitor approach.

Decision-Making Support Systems in Quality Management of Higher Education Institutions: A Selective Review

A new Process-Task-Decision scheme for HEIs based on a relevant international QMS process framework ISO 9001 IWA 2:2007 is elaborate, and a survey of DMSS and HEI literature in the 1996-2016 period finds that DMSS have been used in a variety of Process- Task-Dec decision situations in HEIs from early periods to the present, but their utilization is still scarce and partially deployed.

An Ontological Approach to Enterprise Knowledge Modeling in a Shipping Company

An ontology-based EKM OBEKM methodology is proposed and its products, procedures, and modeling language are described and applied to the construction of a shipping company's knowledge model for demonstration.

Learning and Education Experience in System Dynamics of Management Students: Case Studies

The results show that students, taking the course of Modelling and Simulation, thought that application of the simulation model contributes to a greater understanding of the problem, the faster finding of solutions, and enhanced confidence of the participants.

Organizational Learning Supported by Machine Learning Models Coupled with General Explanation Methods: A Case of B2B Sales Forecasting

When the users embrace the proposed ML model and its explanations, they change their initial beliefs, make more accurate B2B sales predictions and detect other features of the process, not included in the ML model.
