Big Brother, the tyrant of George Orwell's 1984, directed his daily Two Minutes Hate against Emmanuel Goldstein, enemy of the people. When I studied evolutionary biology in graduate school during the mid-1960s, official rebuke and derision focused upon Richard Goldschmidt, a famous geneticist who, we were told, had gone astray. Although 1984 creeps up on us, I trust that the world will not be in Big Brother's grip by then. I do, however, predict that during this decade Goldschmidt will be…

When viewed from the perspective of the biographer, Gould’s revival of Goldschmidt as an evolutionary heretic in the 1970s and 1980s represents a selective reinvention of GoldSchmidt that provides a contrast to other kinds of biographical commemorations by scientists.

Drifting Ethologists. Nikolaas Tinbergen and Gustav Kramer. Two Intellectual Life-Histories in an Incipient Darwinian Epistemic Community (1930-1983).

The present dissertation thesis understands itself as epistemological case study for the principles of scientific change. It presumes that the modern sciences established distinguishable subsystems

Saltational evolution: hopeful monsters are here to stay

It is argued that the complete dismissal of saltational evolution is a major historical error of evolutionary biology tracing back to Darwin that needs to be rectified.

Orthogenesis versus Darwinism

The pre-history of the concepts of directed evolution is represented by treatises of the authors who worked in the first half of the nineteenth century, which contained ideas related to spontaneous evolution, constraints on variation and the similarity of lifecycles of species and those of individuals.

Stephen J. Gould: The Scientific Legacy

Steve Gould arrived as a beginning graduate student in the Department of Geology at Columbia University in the Fall of 1963. He was one of a group of entering students interested in paleontology,

Seven non-darwinian theories opposite to evolution

The objective of this article is to prove that “Seven non-Darwinian theories opposite to evolution”, which represents the punctuated equilibrium, the shifting balance theory, the allopatric speciation theory and the species selection theory for the macroevolution, are opposite to any kind of evolution.

No entailing laws, but enablement in the evolution of the biosphere

It is argued that the evolution of life marks the end of a physics world view of law entailed dynamics, and the role of (theoretical) symmetries as invariant preserving transformations will allow to understand the nature of physical phase spaces and to stress the differences required for a sound biological theoretizing.

Punctuated equilibrium theory represents shifting balance theory (of macro and quantum evolution) and invalid Darwin’s theory

If anyone proves that genetic drift unable to produce new species or rejected shifting balance theory and fossil does not support macroevolution but support gradual evolution; then punctuated equilibrium theory even allopatric speciation theory would be invalid automatically.
