There is a strategic need for a cost-effective method of conducting ISO/IEC 15504 conformant assessments of the capability of software development projects. This applies particularly in the case of SMEs for whom the cost of a full three to four day assessment may be prohibitive. The Rapid Assessment for Process Improvement for software Development (RAPID), has been developed to address this need. The RAPID method, which is intended for use by experienced ISO 15504 assessors is specifically for… Expand

Process improvement for small firms: An evaluation of the RAPID assessment-based method
TLDR
An evaluation of a program in which low-rigour, one-day SPI assessments were offered at no cost to 22 small Australian software development firms revealed that the process improvement program was effective in improving the process capability of 15 of these smallSoftware development firms. Expand
A Method for Process Assessment in Small Software Companies
TLDR
An assessment method with the objective of process improvement adapted to small brazilian software companies based on the standard ISO/IEC 15504 is being developed to facilitate the application of 15504 also in small software companies in order to enable quality and productivity improvement. Expand
An evaluation of the RAPID assessment-based process improvement method for small firms
[Abstract]: With increasing interest by the software development community in software process improvement (SPI), it is vital that SPI programs are evaluated and the reports of lessons learnedExpand

TLDR
Findings from the RAPID process improvement program as experienced by four small software companies are presented and the discussion presented compares the capability of the four companies and links the findings from this case study to existing literature related to software process improvement success and failure. Expand
An evaluation of software development practice and assessment-based process improvement in small software development firms
[Abstract]: As software becomes increasingly important to all aspects of industry, there is a need to encourage practitioners to adopt best practice so as to improve the quality of the processes inExpand
A Low-overhead method for software process appraisal
This article describes a low-overhead method of software process appraisal that has been developed and used by the Centre for Software Process Technologies (CSPT) to appraise small-to-medium sizedExpand
FIRST: Common-Sense Process Scopes for Starting a Process Improvement Program
TLDR
The FIRST (Fast Improvement aSsessment sTep) approach will propose a minimum, common-sense set of processes to be appraised during the initial gap analysis which will form the foundation for the design and deployment of an improvement plan, which will be particularly useful for Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Very Small Entities (VSEs) that are coherent with ISO Management Systems requirements. Expand
Standard based software process assessments in small companies
TLDR
This paper presents how the assessments were run and lessons learned on applying ISO/IEC 15504 in small software companies in Finland and Brazil, and presents a flexible approach to efficient process assessments. Expand
An Incremental Approach to Software Process Assessment and Improvement
TLDR
It seems quite plausible that all four types of assessment techniques should be employed on an ongoing basis in a staged fashion and an incremental improvement path can be defined using process assessment that commences with questionnaires, then goes on to matrices, workshops, and finally reaches pro-formas. Expand
A framework to compare software process assessment methods dedicated to small and very small organizations
TLDR
This paper presents a framework to compare SPI methods dedicated to small and very small organizations, and suggests a number of customized assessment methods based on SPI models to fit the needs of such organizations. Expand
