Summary The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible protective effect of ellagic acid (EA) on rats following renal ischemia–reperfusion (I/R) injury. Twenty-four Wistar rats were divided into three groups. Sham group underwent laparotomy then waited for 45 min without ischemia. I/R group were subjected to left renal ischemia for 45 minutes followed by 60 min of reperfusion. I/R+EA group were subjected to the same renal ischemia/reperfusion as the I/R group, were also given 85 mg/kg EA…

The Predictive Value of Ischemia-Modified Albumin in Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Serum IMA values increased in parallel with the duration of ischemia, and this increase was supported by histopathological damage findings.

Ellagic Acid Ameliorates Renal Ischemic-Reperfusion Injury Through NOX4/JAK/STAT Signaling Pathway

The results suggest that EA exerts the renoprotective effect via suppressing NOX4/JAK/STAT signaling pathway, which may be a novel potential therapy for the treatment of acute kidney injury in clinic.

The Effect of Ticagrelor on Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury of Kidney : Is the Pleiotropic Effect a Valid Factor ?

It is shown that ticagrelor is an effective agent to protect kidney from renal ischemia-reperfusion injury and may protect the tissues by reducing the concentration of reactive oxygen species and inducing the antioxidant system-especially with the pleiotropic effect.

Renal ischemia may be present after renal transplantation, partial nephrectomy, cardiopulmonary bypass operations, septicemia, renal artery revascularization, trauma, and hydronephrosis, and tissue reperfusion should be maintained to prevent permanent cell injury.

Synaptic plasticity and cognitive impairment consequences to acute kidney injury: Protective role of ellagic acid

Glycerol injection increased blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (Scr) levels significantly in the AKI group, and EA treatment resulted in a significant reduction in BUN levels in all concentration groups, demonstrating the efficacy of EA in hippocampal complication and cognitive dysfunction secondary to AKI via alleviating the inflammation.

Evaluation of Smilax excelsa L. use in experimentally induced nephrotoxicity.

The results of this study suggest that S. excelsa could protect the kidney tissue against CCl4-induced nephrotoxicity in rats, probably by increasing antioxidative defense activities.

The Effect of Ellagic Acid on Intra-abdominal Adhesions Caused by Gallstones

The ellagic acid administered orally at a dose of 100 mg/kg/d significantly inhibited intra-abdominal adhesion formation and no adverse effects were seen between treatments.

Ellagic acid ameliorates lung injury after intestinal ischemia-reperfusion

The results suggest that EA treatment protected the rats lung tissue against intestinal I/R injury.

The Protective Effects of Ascorbic Acid against Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Male Rats

The findings imply that reactive oxygen species play a causal role in I/R-induced renal injury, and that AA exerts renoprotective effects, probably by radical scavenging and antioxidant activities.

Effect of beta carotene on lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status following renal ischemia/reperfusion injury in rat

Since beta carotene administration improved renal lipid peroxidation and antioxidants, it seems that betaCarotene protects renal tissue against ischemia/reperfusion-induced oxidative damage.

Role of ellagic acid against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative stress in rats.

The results indicate that the antioxidant ellagic acid might have a protective effect against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity and oxidative stress in rat, but not enough to inhibit cisplat-induced renal dysfunction.

Ellagic acid attenuates oxidative stress on brain and sciatic nerve and improves histopathology of brain in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

The results of the present study suggested that ellagic acid exhibits neuroprotective effects against oxidative damage in diabetic rats.

Attenuation of renal ischemia/reperfusion injury by a triple drug combination therapy.

The results suggest that pre-administration of a combination of NAC, SNP, and P attenuates renal ischemia/reperfusion injury, which has potential application in preservation of donor kidney for transplantation by protecting cells against free radical damage.
