Detailed kinetic studies of the action of crystalline fumarase (fumarate hydratase, EC 4.2.1.2) have been made by Alberty and co-workers (2, 3). These studies have given considerable insight into the mechanism of action of the enzyme and have provided a basis for understanding one type of enzymically catalyzed hydration reaction.
