Abstract We include the dimension of angle in the expression for the value of the Planck constant h. As a result it has the dimensions of action/angle. However, in the equations of quantum mechanics we need the Planck constant to have the dimensions of action. Thus we introduce the Planck constant of action, which we symbolize as hA. The constants h and hA have the same numerical values when h is expressed in J s cycle − 1 and hA in J s.

Because of continued confusion caused by the SI’s interpretation of angle and solid angle as dimensionless quantities (and the radian and steradian as dimensionless derived units), it is time for the
Angles in the SI: treating the radian as an independent, unhidden unit does not require the redefinition of the term ‘frequency’ or the unit hertz
Some recent papers have argued that frequency should have the dimensions of angle/time, with the consequences that 1 Hz = 2π rad/s instead of 1 s-1, and also that ν = ω and h = ħ. This letter puts
The CO2 molecule is never linear
Abstract We make an ab initio calculation of the bending distribution functions for low lying vibrational states of the CO2 molecule in its ground electronic state. These functions have their maximum

The Planck constant and its units
Abstract We urge spectroscopists to use the units cycle s − 1 or radian s − 1 , with an appropriate prefix such as kilo as needed, when expressing the value of a transition frequency; the hertz (Hz)
On the Theory of quantum mechanics
The new mechanics of the atom introduced by Heisenberg may be based on the assumption that the variables that describe a dynamical system do not obey the commutative law of multiplication, but
On the units radian and cycle for the quantity plane angle
This paper is concerned with the names and symbols for quantities used to describe oscillatory motion such as for a harmonic oscillator, and the units to be used for the quantity plane angle and
Dimensionless units in the SI
The International System of Units (SI) is supposed to be coherent. That is, when a combination of units is replaced by an equivalent unit, there is no additional numerical factor. Here we consider
A summary of the Planck constant determinations using the NRC Kibble balance
We present a summary of the Planck constant determinations using the NRC watt balance, now referred to as the NRC Kibble balance. The summary includes a reanalysis of the four determinations
Angles are inherently neither length ratios nor dimensionless
The status of angles within The International System of Units (SI) has long been a source of controversy and confusion. We address one specific but crucial issue, putting the case that the idea of
On the status of plane and solid angles in the International System of Units (SI)
The article analyzes the arguments that became the basis for declaring in 1995, at the 20th General Conference on Weights and Measures that the plane and solid angles are dimensionless derived
The quantized Hall effect
Semiconductor research and the Nobel Prize in physics seem to be contradictory, since one may come to the conclusion that a complicated system like a semiconductor is not useful for very fundamental
