Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC) is a widely distributed metabolic enzyme among plant and prokaryotic species. In vascular plants, the typical PEPC is regulated post-translationally by a complex interplay between opposing metabolite effectors and reversible protein phosphorylation.
