The dust extinction curve is a critical component of many observational programs and an important diagnostic of the physics of the interstellar medium. Here we present new measurements of the dust extinction curve and its variation towards tens of thousands of stars, a hundred-fold larger sample than in existing detailed studies. We use data from the APOGEE spectroscopic survey in combination with ten-band photometry from Pan-STARRS1, 2MASS, and WISE. We find that the extinction curve in the… Expand
An Analysis of the Shapes of Interstellar Extinction Curves. VIII. The Optical Extinction Structure
New HST/STIS optical spectra were obtained for a sample of early type stars with existing IUE UV spectra. These data were used to construct optical extinction curves whose general properties areExpand
Optical-NIR dust extinction towards Galactic O stars
[ABRIDGED] Context. O stars are excellent tracers of the intervening ISM because of their high luminosity, blue intrinsic SED, and relatively featureless spectra. We are currently conducting GOSSS,Expand
Mapping the Extinction Curve in 3D: Structure on Kiloparsec Scales
© 2017. The American Astronomical Society. All rights reserved.. Near-infrared spectroscopy from APOGEE and wide-field optical photometry from Pan-STARRS1 have recently made precise measurements ofExpand
The Optical–Mid-infrared Extinction Law of the l = 165° Sightline in the Galactic Plane: Diversity of the Extinction Law in the Diffuse Interstellar Medium
Understanding the effects of dust extinction is important to properly interpret observations. The optical total-to-selective extinction ratio, Rv = Av/E(B-V), is widely used to describe extinctionExpand
Galactic reddening in 3D from stellar photometry – an improved map
We present a new 3D map of interstellar dust reddening, covering three quarters of the sky (declinations of δ ≳ −30°) out to a distance of several kiloparsecs. The map is based on high-qualityExpand
The Optical/Near-Infrared Extinction Law In Highly Reddened Regions
A precise extinction law is a critical input when interpreting observations of highly reddened sources such as young star clusters and the Galactic Center (GC). We use Hubble Space TelescopeExpand
Small Variation of the NIR and MIR Interstellar Extinction Laws
Abstract Using the data from APOGEE, WISE, and GLIMPSE, we explored the variation of the near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) interstellar extinction laws of the Milky Way. We derived the IRExpand
The DECam Plane Survey: Optical photometry of two billion objects in the southern Galactic plane
The DECam Plane Survey is a five-band optical and near-infrared survey of the southern Galactic plane with the Dark Energy Camera at Cerro Tololo. The survey is designed to reach past theExpand
A Systematic Study of the Dust of Galactic Supernova Remnants. I. The Distance and the Extinction
By combining the photometric, spectroscopic, and astrometric information of the stars in the sightline of SNRs, the distances to and the extinctions of 32 Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) areExpand
First metallicity determination from near-infrared spectra for five obscured Cepheids discovered in the inner disc
We report the discovery of five new classical Cepheids located in the inner Galactic Disk at longitude l ≃ −40° in our IRSF/SIRIUS Near-Infrared (NIR) variability survey. The new Cepheids are uniqueExpand

Hubble Tarantula Treasury Project – IV. The extinction law
We report on the study of interstellar extinction across the Tarantula nebula (30 Doradus), in the Large Magellanic Cloud, using observations from the Hubble Tarantula Treasury Project in the 0.3 -Expand
The SDSS-III/Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE) survey operated from 2011–2014 using the APOGEE spectrograph, which collects high-resolution (R ~ 22,500), near-IRExpand
Interstellar extinction curve variations towards the inner Milky Way: a challenge to observational cosmology
We investigate interstellar extinction curve variations toward $\sim$4 deg$^{2}$ of the inner Milky Way in $VIJK_{s}$ photometry from the OGLE-III and $VVV$ surveys, with supporting evidence fromExpand
The Data Reduction Pipeline for the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment
