Summary: Thymidine kinase activities, virtually all soluble in rat lung, liver, and small intestine, descreased abruptly late in gestation or immediately after birth. An injection of thyroxine delayed the fetal but not the neonatal changes in liver activity. An injection of cortisol decreased hepatic and pulmonary thymidine kinase activities in both fetal and neonatal rats but had little effect on the intestinal enzyme. Premature extrauterinization led to an earlier occurrence of the…

Islet Cell Thymidine Kinase Activity as Indicator of Islet Cell Proliferation in Rat Pancreas

It is suggested that measurements of islet TK activity can be used as an index of islets cell proliferation; this method has the distinct advantage of avoiding the cumbersome procedure of preparing and scoring autoradiograms.

Acute and temporary inhibition of thymidine kinase in mouse bone marrow cells after low-dose exposure.

The reversibility of the effect in vivo and in vitro suggests a particular enzyme control mechanism that may be non-specifically triggered by intracellular charges, such as peroxides, and may enhance repair.

Cytidine 5'-Diphosphate Reductase and Thymidine Kinase Activities in Phytohemagglutinin-stimulated Lymphocytes of Normal Subjects of Various Ages and Patients with Immunodeficiency

The activities of CDP reductase and thymidine kinase were reduced in patients with the hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome, congenital cytomegalovirus infection, anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia withhyperimmunglobulin A, Bloom's syndrome, immunodeficiency with hyperim immunoglobulinemia, and Down's syndrome.

The data imply the non-specific control of thymidine kinase by charged molecular species and the modification of this control by the magnetic field is implied.

Modification of effects of radiation on thymidine kinase.

The data point to the involvement of the cellular radical-detoxification system in changing the activity of TdR-K, especially on the basis of the concurrent increase of glutathione concentration and decrease in Td R-K activity.

Stability of enterocytes and certain enzymatic activities in suspensions of cells from the villous tip to the crypt of Lieberkühn of the mouse small intestine

A procedure by which cell suspensions could be obtained containing enterocytes isolated sequentially from the villous tip to the crypt of Lieberkühn, and success in assaying enzymatic activities in the cell suspensions depended on how the cells were isolated, the assay procedure for thymidine kinase, and whether cellular suspensions or extracts were assayed.

Lactobacilli as effectors of host functions: no influence on the activities of enzymes in enterocytes of mice

Any effects on animal growth and food utilization observed when lactobacilli are used as dietary supplements may not be due to a direct alteration by the bacteria of the absorptive enzymes of the host animal.

Relative activities of thymidylate synthetase and thymidine kinase in rat tissues.

The activities of the two enzymes did not appear to be reciprocal or compensatory during normal differentiation or during dedifferentiation associated with tumor bearing, but their potentials for activity were independent of each other.

Uridine kinase activities in developing, adult and neoplastic rat tissues.

In pancreas, precocious formation or uridine kinase was elicited by overnight starvation of 2-week-old rats, and in suckling rats the intestinal activity decreased substantially immediately after birth and normally did not rise again until late in the third postnatal week.

Glutamate Dehydrogenase, Alanine Aminotransferase, Thymidine Kinase, and Arginase in Fetal and Adult Human and Rat Liver

It is unlikely that the occurrence of particulate thymidine kinase and soluble glutamate dehydrogenase in man is restricted to liver, and their relatively late appearance in life suggests that their further study would be of interest to both ontogeny and phylogeny.

Thymidine kinase and deoxyribonucleic acid metabolism in growing and regenerating livers from rats on controlled feeding schedules.

Rats accustomed to eating during the first 8h of a daily 12h dark period re-established about 80% of intact liver weight, protein and DNA within 4 days following partial hepatectomy; further

Distribution and regulation of deoxythymidine kinase activity in differentiating cells of mammalian intestines.

The degree of stimulation by phospholipase C appeared to be inversely related to the level of deoxythymidine kinase activity present under standard assay conditions, which was more pronounced in extracts from rat tissues and in pellet fractions of all the tissues studied.

Enzymic Differentiation of Human Liver: Comparison with the Rat Model

The sequence in which different enzymes approach their adult concentration in human liver closely resembles that in rat liver, which suggests that the mechanisms responsible for the schedule of gene expression must also be analogous: the synthesis of specific groups of enzymes at each corresponding critical period is regulated by the same hormones in both species.

The undifferentiated enzymic composition of human fetal lung and pulmonary tumors.

The results demonstrate that quantification of a small battery of enzymes, none of them tissue specific, can distinguish adult human lung from its neoplasms.
