The NBOMe compounds are a novel series of hallucinogenic drugs that are potent agonists of the 5-HT2A receptor, have a short history of human consumption and are available to buy online, in most countries. In this study, we sought to investigate the patterns of use, characteristics of users and self-reported effects. A cross-sectional anonymous online survey exploring the patterns of drug use was conducted in 2012 (n = 22,289), including questions about the use of 25B-NBOMe, 25C-NBOMe, and 25I…

25C-NBOMe: Preliminary Data on Pharmacology, Psychoactive Effects, and Toxicity of a New Potent and Dangerous Hallucinogenic Drug

A comprehensive review of the nature and the risks associated with 25C-NBOMe, which has recently appeared in the drug market, and its use is increased by its online availability at low costs.

NBOMe hallucinogenic drug exposures reported to the Danish Poison Information Centre.

A steep and sudden rise in reported NBOMe exposures in Denmark within 3-4 years is shown, and the results suggest that the use has started to decline.

Beware of blotting paper hallucinogens: severe toxicity with NBOMes

25B-NBOMe is consistent with previous reports of severe NBOMe toxicity, with agitation, tachycardia and mild hypertension, seizures, rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury.

Examination of Synthetic Cannabinoid and Cathinone Use among a Drug-Using Offender Sample, 2013–2015

NPS use may be a marker of more severe using patterns in an offender sample entering drug treatment, and future investigation should focus on NPS use as a possible method for bypassing drug testing measures.

Novel psychoactive substances: types, mechanisms of action, and effects

The Psychoactive Substances Bill banned trading but not possession of all current and future novel psychoactive substances (NPS), sometimes incorrectly called “legal highs,” in an attempt to overcome rapid proliferation of these compounds.

NBOMe and 2C substitute phenylethylamine exposures reported to the National Poison Data System

Common clinical effects of NBOMe and 2C exposures were tachycardia, agitation/irritable, hallucination/delusion, confusion, and hypertension.

Case series: toxicity from 25B-NBOMe – a cluster of N-bomb cases

It is suggested that management should be supportive and focused on preventing further (self) harm from 25B-NBOMe, and high doses of benzodiazepines may be required to control agitation.

Dimethyltryptamine (DMT): Prevalence, user characteristics and abuse liability in a large global sample

Overall, DMT seems to have a very desirable effect profile indicating a high abuse liability that maybe offset by a low urge to use more, suggesting its popularity may increase.

25C-NBOMe--new potent hallucinogenic substance identified on the drug market.

5-Year Trends in Use of Hallucinogens and Other Adjunct Drugs among UK Dance Drug Users

The rise in prevalence of hallucinogen and other adjunct drugs identified among dance drug users may be mirrored by wider prevalence increases among young people with a consequent need to study these trends carefully and to develop effective interventions, where required.

Mephedrone, new kid for the chop?

Mephedrone appears to be used primarily intranasally and to have comparable abuse potential to cocaine, with more than half those who use both reporting that mephedrone gives a better quality high.

NBOMe — a very different kettle of fish …

It is concerned that recent media reports about a 17-year-old Sydney boy who died after allegedly consuming 25Bor 25I-NBOMe might lead to an increase in the incidence of NBOMe toxicity among patients presenting to emergency departments.

A case of 25I-NBOMe (25-I) intoxication: a new potent 5-HT2A agonist designer drug

A case of self-reported exposure to 25-I (25I-NBOMe), a novel phenethylamine derivative, with subsequent quantification in serum is described, a potent new synthetic drug with apparent significant behavioral toxicity that can be detected and quantified in serum.

The Pharmacology of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide: A Review

There is new interest in LSD as an experimental tool for elucidating neural mechanisms of (states of) consciousness and there are recently discovered treatment options with LSD in cluster headache and with the terminally ill.
