The vibrational modes (generalized) of a two-wheel vehicle are studied in several trim configurations. The modal analysis is carried out on a 3D non-linear mathematical model, developed using the natural coordinates approach. A special procedure for evaluating the steady state solutions in straight running and on a curve is proposed. The paper presents detailed results of the modal analysis for a production sports motorcycle. Furthermore, the influence of speed and lateral (centripetal… Expand

Improving lateral stability of a motorcycle via assistive control of a reaction wheel
The aim of this project is to improve the lateral stability of a motorcycle via active control. A simplified nonlinear motorcycle model forms the plant. The control goals are defined as roll angleExpand
Stability analysis of a novel four-wheeled motorcycle in straight running
TLDR
The stability analysis of a novel four wheeled tilting motorcycle shows that the eigenmodes of the four-wheeler have several common features with the capsize, weave, wobble and rear wobble modes which characterize the dynamics of two and three wheeled motorcycles. Expand
Control-Oriented Modeling of Motorcycle Dynamics
Recent technology advances in the field of ride-by-wire technology for motorcycle (namely active braking and full electronic throttle) open the way to the design of innovative control strategies toExpand

This work presents a study on the braking style and its implications on motorcycle stability. First, a simplified motorcycle model is used for highlighting basic phenomena which occur during brakingExpand
The Physics of Motorcycles and Fast Bicycles : Lean, Stability and Counter-steering
In this work I will obtain the system of nonlinear equations that correctly describes the motion of motorcycles and fast bicycles (above 30 km/hr) for the first time in literature. I will use it toExpand
A Multibody Dynamics Model of a Motorcycle with a Multi-link Front Suspension
TLDR
A novel multi-link suspension has been designed for the front assembly of the motorcycle in this research and an appropriate method of comparison between conventional andMulti-link models was developed, and the assessment standard of performance for conventional and multi- link models was explored. A “corner solver” for motorcycles as a tool for the development of a virtual rider
In this paper, a solver for the cornering analysis of motorcycles is presented. Its main outcome is the trim condition of the vehicle accelerating through a corner. There are several advantages ofExpand
Enhanced motorcycle roll stability by use of a reaction wheel actuator
The paper presents a preliminary study on the use of the reaction wheel for improving the roll stability of motorcycles. The development of the controller is based on the dynamics of the reactionExpand
Dynamic stability of an aerodynamically efficient motorcycle
Motorcycles exhibit two potentially dangerous oscillatory modes known as ‘wobble’ and ‘weave’. The former is reminiscent of supermarket castor shimmy, while the latter is a low frequencyExpand
