Virtually all AI and object-oriented programming languages include inheritance systems. Common examples are FRL, KRL, KLONE, NETL, Simula, Smalltalk, Flavors, and Ada. Systems that permit exceptions to inherited properties, which involves a form of nonmonotonic reasoning, remained unformalized until quite recently.
