Non-Abelian monopoles are present in the fully quantum mechanical low-energy effective action of many solvable supersymmetric theories. They behave perfectly as pointlike particles carrying non-Abelian dual magnetic charges. They play a crucial role in confinement and in dynamical symmetry breaking in these theories. There is a natural identification of these excitations within the semiclassical approach, which involves the flavor symmetry in an essential manner. We review, in an introductory…

Confinement and duality in supersymmetric gauge theories
In this thesis we review the Seiberg-Witten solution of four dimensional N=2 gauge theories, the six-dimensional construction of these models recently proposed by Gaiotto and the BPS quiver technique
Type I non-abelian superconductors in supersymmetric gauge theories
Non-BPS non-Abelian vortices with 1 internal moduli space are studied in an = 2 supersymmetric U(1) × SU(2) gauge theory with adjoint mass terms. For generic internal orientations the classical force
Non-Abelian monopole-vortex complex
In the context of softly broken N=2 supersymmetric quantum chromodynamics (SQCD), with a hierarchical gauge symmetry breaking SU(N+1) -> U(N) -> 1, at scales v1 and v2, respectively, where v1 >>
Static interactions of non-Abelian vortices
Interactions between non-BPS non-Abelian vortices are studied in non-Abelian U(1) × SU(N) extensions of the Abelian-Higgs model in four dimensions. The distinctive feature of a non-Abelian vortex is
Monopole-vortex complex at large distances and nonAbelian duality
A bstractWe discuss the large-distance approximation of the monopole-vortex complex soliton in a hierarchically broken gauge system, SU(N + 1) → SU(N ) × U(1) → 1, in a color-flavor locked SU(N )
Monopole-vortex complex in a theta vacuum
We discuss aspects of the monopole-vortex complex soliton arising in a hierarchically broken gauge system, G to H to 1, in a theta vacuum of the underlying G theory. Here we focus our attention
Twisted-mass potential on the non-Abelian string world sheet induced by bulk masses
We derive the twisted-mass potential in N=(2,2) CP(N-1) theory on the world sheet of the non-Abelian string from the bulk N=2 theory with massive (s)quarks by determining the profile functions of the
Quaternion-Octonion Analyticity for Abelian and Non-Abelian Gauge Theories of Dyons
Abstract Einstein-Schrödinger (ES) non-symmetric theory has been extended to accommodate the Abelian and non-Abelian gauge theories of dyons in terms of the quaternion-octonion metric realization.
Gauge Formulation for Two Potential Theory of Dyons
Dual electrodynamics and corresponding Maxwell’s equations (in the presence of monopole only) are revisited from the symmetry of duality and gauge invariance. Accordingly, the manifestly covariant,

Messages for QCD from the Superworld
Recent discoveries in supersymmetric gauge theories have significant implications for our understanding for QCD and of field theory in general. The phases of N = 1 supersymmetric QCD (SQCD) are
TASI Lectures on Solitons Instantons, Monopoles, Vortices and Kinks
These lectures cover aspects of solitons with focus on applications to the quantum dynamics of supersymmetric gauge theories and string theory. The lectures consist of four sections, each dealing
THE MAGNETIC MONOPOLE FIFTY YEARS LATER
This is a jubilee year. In 1931, P. A. M. Dirac1 founded the theory of magnetic monopoles. In the fifty years since, no one has observed a monopole; nevertheless, interest in the subject has never
