Abstract The coercivity H c of γ-Fe 2 O 3 and α-Fe 2 O 3 particles increases with increasing content of adsorbed Co, until H c reac hes its maximum value. The Mossbauer spectra of 57 Fe enriched α-Fe 2 O 3 fine particles with and without adsorbed cobalt were measured. The change in the effective anisotropy constant calculated from the Mossbauer spectra can interpret these coercivity changes.
