Although Heymans and Heymans (1927) demonstrated tIhe presence of chemically sensitive nerve receptors in the region of the aortic arch several years before Heymans et al. (1931) discovered similar receptors in the carotid sinus area, the former have received little attention since that time while the latter have been investigated repeatedly.
