The results of assembling the light-harvesting complexes in the cells of the purple sulfur bacterium Thiorhodospira (T.) sibirica strain Kir-3 while suppressing the biosynthesis of carotenoids with diphenylamine (DPA) were studied. LH2 complexes (B800-850 and B800-830) with different carotenoid composition were isolated from the cells obtained. Maximum inhibition of carotenoid biosynthesis (~90% of the control) was reached at an inhibitor concentration of 53.25 μM (9 mg/L). It was established…

The LH2 complexes are assembled in the cells of purple sulfur bacterium Ectothiorhodospira haloalkaliphila with inhibition of carotenoid biosynthesis
TLDR
DPA almost entirely inhibits the biosynthesis of the colored Cars in Ect.haloalkaliphila cells, suggesting that the principles for assembling this LH2 complex in vivo in the absence of colored Cars remain the same.
Peripheral light-harvesting LH2 complex can be assembled in cells of nonsulfur purple bacterium Rhodoblastus acidophilus without carotenoids
TLDR
The data suggest that a certain part of the LH2 complexes is assembled without carotenoids in cells of the nonsulfur bacterium Rbl.
Spirilloxanthin incorporation into the LH2 and LH1-RC pigment-protein complexes from a purple sulfur bacterium Allochromatium minutissimum
Incorporation of spirilloxanthin into carotenoidless LH2 and LH1-RC complexes from a purple sulfur bacterium Allochromatium (Alc.) minutissimum was studied. Carotenoidless cells of Alc. minutissimum
The origin of the split B800 absorption peak in the LH2 complexes from Allochromatium vinosum
TLDR
The best agreement between simulation and experiment is found for a ring-like oligomer of 12 repeat units, where the mutual arrangement of the B800 and B850 rings resembles those from Rsp.
Heterogeneity of carotenoid content and composition in LH2 of the purple sulphur bacterium Allochromatium minutissimum grown under carotenoid-biosynthesis inhibition
TLDR
It is shown that the LH2 can be assembled without any Cars, although the presence of Cars, however, is important for structural stability of LH2 complexes.
Complete DNA sequence, specific Tn5 insertion map, and gene assignment of the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway of Rhodobacter sphaeroides
TLDR
This study provides gene sequences and assignments based upon a comprehensive structural, spectroscopic, and biochemical analysis of a range of carotenoid biosynthetic mutants; in each mutation, the point of Tn5 insertion is determined accurate to 1 bp on the gene cluster.
Peripheral Complexes of Purple Bacteria
This chapter uses the LH2 complex from Rhodopseudomonas acidophila strain 10050 as an example to describe the current understanding of the structure of purple bacterial peripheral antenna complexes.
Structure, Function and Formation of Bacterial Intracytoplasmic Membranes
A variety of prokaryotes increase their membrane surface area for energy transduction processesby developing an intracytoplasmic membrane (ICM), in the form of tubules, interconnected vesicles, and
Effect of Light with Different Spectral Composition on Cell Growth and Pigment Composition of the Membranes of Purple Sulfur Bacteria Allochromatium minutissimum and Allochromatium vinosum
The effect of light with different spectral composition: white, red and blue-green (the first one is absorbed by all the pigments of the cell, and the second and the third ones are absorbed by
The purple bacterial photosynthetic unit
TLDR
Detailed structural information is now available for not only the reaction center, but also LH2 from Rhodopseudomonas acidophila and LH1 from Rhodospirillum rubrum, which opens the door to a much more detailed understanding of the energy transfer events occurring within the PSU.
