The intron-containing genes encoding rat and human ribosomal protein L19 (RPL19) have been cloned. The DNA sequences of the entire rat RPL19 gene and the 5' end of the human RPL19 gene have been determined. Sequence comparison of corresponding regions of the two genes reveals a striking interspecies homology in the 5' upstream region, outside the transcribed and coding regions.
