From the end of the 1950's attempts to introduce the predator Perillus bioculatus have been made in several European countries. This article reviews the main results of studies carried out during the last two decades on the ecology, behaviour and cultural enemies of the predator as well as on its practical use. The species has not yet become established anywhere in Europe, presumably due to some of its ecological and behavioural characteristics. Its direct use against the Colorado beetle by… Expand
Progress in biological control of the Colorado beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) in Eastern Europe
TLDR
Intensive studies conducted in Eastern Europe to introduce and acclimatize two predatory bugs, Perillus bioculatus and Podisus maculiventris, and one fly have not given positive results so far. Expand
Advances in biological control of Leptinotarsa decemlineata in Poland1
TLDR
It was demonstrated in Poland that three treatments with the biopesticides Mycotrol or Novodor provided a level of potato protection similar to that of two treatments with a synthetic pyrethroid. Expand
Colorado beetle -- recent work in preventing its establishment in Britain.
Current measures for excluding the Colorado beetle from Britain and for intercepting it are reviewed. Publicity is used to obtain a high rate of interceptions on non-host commodities by the public;Expand
A SHORT-TERM AUXILIARY DIET FOR THE PREDACEOUS STINK BUG, PERILLUS BIOCULATUS (HEMIPTERA: PENTATOMIDAE)
TLDR
Perillus bioculatus can be maintained in the laboratory on a diet of Heliothis virescens F. larvae if supplemented with Colorado potato beetle eggs, and survival of nymphs, adult longevity, start of ovipositioning, and percent hatch were equivalent between the two rearing regimes for three generations. Expand
PERILLUS BIOCULATUS (FABRICIUS) (HETEROPTERA: PENTATOMIDAE) IN SERBIA
In 1996, in order to study flora and vegetation the members of the science-expert expedition to the Prokletije Mt. - locality named Djeravica, collected  specimens of Perillus bioculatus (Fabricius,Expand
Orientation behaviour of the predatory hemipteran Perillus bioculatus to plant and prey odours
TLDR
The combination of chemical data on headspace composition, olfactory sensitivity established in electro‐antennogram studies and behavioural data presented here imply a role of sesquiterpenoid plant volatiles as odorous cues eliciting attraction of this predator to damaged potato plants. Expand
BIOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION, PHENOTYPIC AND GENOTYPIC STRUCTURE OF PREDATORY STINKBUG Perillus bioculatus Fabr. (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) POPULATION IN KRASNODAR REGION
TLDR
The researches executed by us confirm plasticity of this species and prospects for its further acclimatization within Colorado potato beetle area and detect intraand inter-population variation of the predatory bugs molecular genetic structure from different zones of the Krasnodar Krai. Expand
Short-term storage conditions for transport and farm delivery of the stink bug perillus bioculatus for the biological control of the colorado potato beetle
TLDR
Results show that storage temperatures within the range of 9 to 15oC and photoperiod did not significantly affect the survival and post-storage development of P. bioculatus nymphs stored for periods of 2 to 8 d, while storage for 10 days significantly reduced the survival rate by about 20%. Expand
Arthropod natural enemies of the Colorado potato beetle.
TLDR
Both augmentative release and conservation of natural enemies are likely to increase in importance in Colorado potato beetle management, as broad-spectrum insecticides are replaced by more selective materials. Expand
Two meridic diets for Perillus bioculatus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), a predator of Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae).
TLDR
A significant reduction in developmental time, increase in survival from egg to adult, and reduction in length of the preovipositional period were observed after 11 generations of in vitro reared P. bioculatus individuals reared on artificial diets, which may indicate that the predators experience some degree of adaptation to the diet after several consecutive generations ofIn vitro rearing. TLDR
It seems that Perillus bioculatus can provide a certain amount of protection to potatoe plantations, by destroying a great number of eggs, and possibly Doryphore larvae, however, several questions remain concerning the true efficacy and the perennity of the predator. Expand

An experiment to test which population density of the predator could lead to economic success and show that even during a heavy infestation by the beetle, at a density of two adults per young potato plant, 2,6 L2–4 of P. bioculatus per plant would be sufficient to suppress the pest perfectly.
