▪ Abstract Helioseismology has transformed our knowledge of the Sun's rotation. Earlier studies revealed the Sun's surface rotation, but now a detailed observational picture has been built up of the internal rotation of our nearest star. Unlike the predictions of stellar-evolution models, the radiative interior is found to rotate roughly uniformly. The rotation within the convection zone is also very different from prior expectations, which had been that the rotation rate would depend primarily… Expand
About the rotation of the solar radiative interior
In the modern era of helioseismology we have a wealth of high-quality data available, e.g., more than 6 years of data collected by the various instruments on board the SOHO mission, and an even moreExpand
Global model of differential rotation in the Sun
The isorotation contours of the solar convective zone (SCZ) show three distinct morphologies, corresponding to two boundary layers (inner and outer), and the bulk of the interior. Previous work hasExpand
Differential rotation and convection in the Sun
We show that the differential rotation profile of the solar convection zone, apart from inner and outer boundary layers, can be reproduced with great accuracy if the isorotation contours correspondExpand
The Solar Dynamo
It is generally accepted that the strong toroidal magnetic fields that emerge through the solar surface in sunspots and active regions are formed by the action of differential rotation on a poloidalExpand
Rotation of the solar convection zone from helioseismology
Abstract Helioseismology has provided very detailed inferences about rotation of the solar interior. Within the convection zone the rotation rate roughly shares the latitudinal variation seen in theExpand
The differential rotation of G dwarfs
A series of stellar models of spectral type G is computed to study the rotation laws resulting from mean-field equations. The rotation laws of the slowly rotating Sun, the rapidly rotating MOSTExpand
Magnetic confinement of the solar tachocline
Context. We study the physics of the solar tachocline (i.e. the thin transition layer between differential rotation in the convection zone and quasi uniform rotation in the radiative interior), andExpand
Differential rotation of main sequence F stars
The differential rotation of a 1.2 Mzero age MS star (spectral type F8) is computed and the results are compared with those from a similar model of the Sun. The rotation pattern is determined byExpand
The role of the stellar rotation on the internal constitution of PV Cassiopeiae
Aims. It has been suggested that the observed apsidal-motion of PV Cas agrees with theoretical predictions. However, this view is not supported by other investigations of the same system. By usingExpand
Differential rotation in fully convective stars
Under the assumption of thermal wind balance and effective entropy mixing in constant rotation surfaces, the isorotational contours of the solar convective zone may be reproduced with great fidelity.Expand

Slow rotation of the Sun's interior
THE rotation of the Sun is not that of a rigid body; at its surface, the gas near the poles has a lower angular velocity than that near the equator1. This latitudinal variation persists to the baseExpand
Dynamic variations at the base of the solar convection zone
Changes in the rotation of the sun near the base of its convective envelope are detected, including a prominent variation with a period of 1.3 years at low latitudes, which may generate the 22-year cycles of magnetic activity. Expand
Angular momentum transport and dynamo action in the sun - Implications of recent oscillation measurements
The implications of a newly proposed picture of the sun's internal rotation (Brown et al., 1989; Morrow, 1988) for the distribution and transport of angular momentum and for the solar dynamo areExpand
Solar internal rotation rate and the latitudinal variation of the tachocline
A new set of accurately measured frequencies of solar oscillations is used to infer the rotation rate inside the Sun, as a function of radial distance as well as latitude. We have adopted aExpand
Inversion of the Internal Solar Rotation Rate
Accurate determination of the rotation rate in the inner radiative zone (0.2 < r/R☉ < 0.5) of the Sun from helioseismic observations requires rotational frequency splittings of exceptional quality.Expand
Measurement of the rotation rate in the deep solar interior
We present a measurement of solar internal rotation based on observations obtained over 3 months in early 1994 with a new instrument called LOWL. This instrument allows for the simultaneousExpand
Differential rotation and meridional flow in the solar convection zone with AKA-effect
It makes no problem to reproduce the internal rotation of the solar convection zone known by helioseismology if (artificially) the meridional flow is ignored. Its inclusion, however, strongly reducesExpand
Standard Solar Models in the Light of New Helioseismic Constraints. II. Mixing below the Convective Zone
In previous work, we have shown that recent updated standard solar models cannot reproduce the radial profile of the sound speed at the base of the convective zone and fail to predict theExpand
Dynamical variations of the differential rotation in the solar convection zone
Recent analyses of helioseismological observations seem to suggest the presence of two new phenomena connected with the dynamics of the solar convective zone. Firstly, there are present torsionalExpand
