The internet of things (IOT) continues to transform the world, and in many countries is now an integral part of our everyday lives-influencing everything from the way that we intercommunicate to how we conduct business. Innovators continue to find ways to integrate IOT into uses as far flung as fashion to medicine. This survey looks at how IOT is currently being integrated into the built environment for the purpose of saving energy and improving occupants' livelihoods. In particular, it reviews…

The main aim of this chapter is to bring more research in the application aspects of smart internet of things (IoT) applications.

Framework for E-Health Systems in IoT-Based Environments

The experiments showed that interoperability between different IoT devices, standards, and protocols in a smart health system could be achieved using a specialized gateway device and that different web technologies could be used simultaneously in constrained and Internet environments.

Patterns and trends in Internet of Things (IoT) research: future applications in the construction industry

This study is the first scientometric review of the existing body of knowledge in the context of application of the IoT in the construction industry by utilising a scientific mapping tool (i.e. VOSviewer) and exposes knowledge gaps in contemporary research.

Energy Optimization Technologies in Smart Homes

An overview of current innovation in smart homes for the advancement of building technology using Internet of Things (IoT) that provides a cost-effective solution for energy management systems is presented.

Big Data Analytics and Context-Aware Computing: Characteristics, Commonalities, Differences, Applications, and Challenges

It is argued that combining big data analytics and context-aware computing could be leveraged in the advancement of urban sustainability, as their effects reinforce one another as to their efforts for transforming the processes operating and organizing urban life in this direction.

Don't Kick Over the Beehive: Attacks and Security Analysis on Zigbee

This paper finds Zigbee-related attacks in which adversaries are outside of the target network and have no knowledge of the encryption keys, which will jeopardize the normal operations of Zigbee networks and develops a framework to efficiently identify such problems.

Fortificación IoT mediante blockchain y cifrado asimétrico

This system pretends to provide security in deployments with a long number of devices with little power, making use of the recent technology blockchain and asymmetric cryptography techniques.

Proposed Application of an IoT-based Predictive Maintenance to Improve O&M of University Project by FM Company: A Six Sigma Approach

Results show that RCM can be achieved, elimination of more costly unscheduled maintenance by 40%-70%, a decrease of labor cost by 10% to 25%, incorporation of root-cause analysis, RM reduction of emergencies, KPI transformation from 80:20 PM: RM ratio to 55:35:10 PdM:PM: RM Ratio, maintenance cost reduction by 25% to 30%, ROI by 10x within 5-years’ time frame, and other significant improvements.

A review about energy management techniques in industrial buildings

BEMS must consider energy use proficiency change, energy cost retreating, and renewable energy innovation usage keeping in mind the end goal to serve neighborhood energy loads in building structures with scattered assets.
