The biological actions of the insulin-like growth factors, IGFI and IGFII, are mediated by their activation of the IGFI receptor (IGFIR), a transmembrane heterotetramer linked to the RAS-RAF-MAPK and PI3K-PKB/AKT signal transduction cascades.
