Context. NGC 3311, the central galaxy of the Hydra I cluster, shows signatures of recent infall of satellite galaxies from the cluster environment. Previous work has shown that the line-of-sight velocity dispersion of the stars and globular clusters in the extended halo of NGC 3311 rises up to the value of the cluster velocity dispersion. In the context of Jeans models, a massive dark halo with a large core is needed to explain this finding. However, position dependent long-slit measurements…

We present a survey of globular clusters (GCs) in the massive gravitational lens cluster SMACS J0723.3–7327 at z = 0.39 based on the early released JWST/NIRCam images. In the color–magnitude diagrams…
Kinematics of the diffuse intragroup and intracluster light in groups and clusters of galaxies in the local universe within 100 Mpc distance
- PhysicsFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences

Nearly all intragroup (IGL) and intracluster light (ICL) comes from stars that are not bound to any single galaxy but were formed in galaxies and later unbound from them. In this review we focus on…
