This article develops a generalization of the scatterplot matrix based on the recognition that most datasets include both categorical and quantitative information. Traditional grids of scatterplots often obscure important features of the data when one or more variables are categorical but coded as numerical. The generalized pairs plot offers a range of displays of paired combinations of categorical and quantitative variables. A mosaic plot, fluctuation diagram, or faceted bar chart may be used…

Deep Exploration of Multidimensional Data with Linkable Scatterplots
A new approach for deep visual exploration of large multi-attribute data using linkable scatterplots that overcomes the limitations of the single scatterplot by providing more plot panels for better comparison while it reduces the unnecessary number of panels of the scatterplot matrix method.
The Swallow-tail Plot: a Simple Graph for Visualizing Bivariate Data
We suggest a new plot for bivariate data based on the angular display of two standardized vectors. This graph shows at a glance the sign and the magnitude of the correlation and the possible
Mosaic Displays for n-Way Tables
This chapter describes the mosaic display and related graphical methods for n-way frequency tables, designed to show various aspects of high-dimensional contingency tables in a hierarchical way.
Zigzag Expanded Navigation Plots in R: The R Package zenplots
We describe the features and implementation of the R package zenplots (zigzag expanded navigation plots) for displaying high-dimensional data according to the recently proposed zenplots. By default,
Cluster-Flow Parallel Coordinates: Tracing Clusters Across Subspaces
A novel variant of parallel coordinates plots (PCPs) in which clusters are shown in 2D subspaces of multivariate data and emphasize flow between them, by duplicating and stacking individual axes vertically.
Interactive visual analytics tool for multidimensional quantitative and categorical data analysis
An interactive visual analytics tool that is applied for the combined analysis of multidimensional numerical and categorical data and helps the analyst not only to find the clusters of similar objects but also to identify the important features specific to these clusters.
Interactive Visual Analysis of Image-Centric Cohort Study Data
An Interactive Visual Analysis approach that enables epidemiologists to rapidly investigate the entire data pool for hypothesis validation and generation is proposed and demonstrated by validating and generating hypotheses related to lower back pain as a qualitative evaluation.
3D Regression Heat Map Analysis of Population Study Data
A visual overview of epidemiological data that allows for the first time an interactive regression-based analysis of large feature sets with respect to a disease and new hypotheses about relations between breast density and breast lesions with breast cancer are derived.

ggplot2 - Elegant Graphics for Data Analysis
This book describes ggplot2, a new data visualization package for R that uses the insights from Leland Wilkisons Grammar of Graphics to create a powerful and flexible system for creating data
Interactive graphics for Data Analysis - Principles and Examples
This full-color text shows that interactive graphical methods complement the traditional statistical toolbox to achieve more complete, easier to understand, and easier to interpret analyses.
Corrgrams: Exploratory Displays for Correlation Matrices
A set of techniques for rendering the value of a correlation to depict its sign and magnitude, and re-ordering the variables in a correlation matrix so that “similar” variables are positioned adjacently, facilitating perception are described.
Mosaic Displays for Multi-Way Contingency Tables
Extensions of the mosaic display to highlight patterns of deviations from various models for categorical data are discussed, and the use of color and shading to represent sign and magnitude of standardized residuals from a specified model is introduced.
Printer graphics for clustering
Methods of estimating multivariate densities may be converted to clusters techniques, and clustering techniques may be helpful in estimating multivari densities.
The Visual Design and Control of Trellis Display
Trellis display provides a powerful mechanism for understanding interactions in studies of how a response depends on explanatory variables, and makes important discoveries not appreciated in the original analyses.
The Grammar of Graphics
The book describes clearly and intuitively the differences between exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, and discusses how to construct, validate, and assess the goodness of fit of a measurement model in SEM by confirmatory factors analysis.
Lattice: Multivariate Data Visualization with R
This book describes Lattice, a powerful and elegant high level data visualization system that is sufficient for most everyday graphics needs, yet flexible enough to be easily extended to handle demands of cutting edge research.
Graphical Analysis of Multiresponse Data, Illustrated With a Plant Breeding Trial, Interdisciplinary Statistics
This book should be quite useful to practitioners, especially if viewed as a collection of handy tools for experiment design, which has successfully gathered together many useful tools for all phases of the experimental process.
Interactive Data Visualization using Mondrian
This paper presents the Mondrian data visualization software, which offers advanced plots for high dimensional categorical (mosaic plots) and continuous data (parallel coordinates) with a special focus on the seamless integration of categorical data.
