We study the role of the environment on galaxy evolution using a sample of 868 galaxies in the Virgo cluster and in its surrounding regions that are selected from the GALEX Ultraviolet Virgo Cluster Survey (GUViCS) with the purpose of understanding the origin of the red sequence in dense environments. The sample spans a wide range in morphological types (from dwarf ellipticals to Im and BCD) and stellar masses (10 7 Mstar 10 11.5 M ). We collected multifrequency data covering the whole…
The GALEX Ultraviolet Virgo Cluster Survey (GUViCS). VI: The UV luminosity function of the Virgo cluster and its surrounding regions
We use the GALEX data of the GUViCS survey to construct the NUV luminosity function of the Virgo cluster over ~ 300 deg.2, an area covering the cluster and its surrounding regions up to ~ 1.8 virial
The GALEX Ultraviolet Virgo Cluster Survey (GUViCS)
Aims. We present the first detection of diffuse dust in the intra-cluster medium of the Virgo cluster out to ∼0.4 virial radii, and study the radial variation of its properties on a radial scale of
The GALEX Ultraviolet Virgo Cluster Survey (GUViCS). VII. Brightest cluster galaxie UV upturn and the FUV-NUV color up to redshift 0.35
CONTEXT:At low redshift, early-type galaxies often exhibit a rising flux with decreasing wavelength in the 1000-2500 \AA{} range, called "UV upturn". The origin of this phenomenon is debated, and its
A Virgo Environmental Survey Tracing Ionised Gas Emission (VESTIGE)
Context. The evolution of galaxies depends on their interaction with the surrounding environment. Ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) have been found in large numbers in clusters. We detected a few
The Color Gradients of the Globular Cluster Systems in M87 and M49
Combining data from the ACS Virgo Cluster Survey and the Next Generation Virgo cluster Survey, we extend previous studies of color gradients of the globular cluster (GC) systems of the two most
The Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey. XXXIV. Ultracompact Dwarf Galaxies in the Virgo Cluster
We present a study of ultra compact dwarf (UCD) galaxies in the Virgo cluster based mainly on imaging from the Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey (NGVS). Using $\sim$100 deg$^{2}$ of $u^*giz$
THE NEXT GENERATION VIRGO CLUSTER SURVEY. XXII. SHELL FEATURE EARLY-TYPE DWARF GALAXIES IN THE VIRGO CLUSTER*
The Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey is a deep (with a 2σ detection limit μ_g = 29 mag arcsec^(−2) in the g-band) optical panchromatic survey targeting the Virgo cluster from its core to virial
A Virgo Environmental Survey Tracing Ionised Gas Emission (VESTIGE)
NGC 4330 is one of the Virgo galaxies whose UV emission distributions show a tail structure. An associated tail structure is also observed in the HI and Hα emission distributions. Previous dynamical
Galaxy pre-processing in substructures around z ∼ 0.4 galaxy clusters
We present a detailed analysis of galaxy colours in two galaxy clusters at z similar to 0.4, MACS J0416.1 - 2403 and MACS J1206.2 - 0847, drawn from the CLASH-VLT survey, to investigate the role of
The AGN contribution to the UV–FIR luminosities of interacting galaxies and its role in identifying the main sequence
Emission from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is known to play an important role in the evolution of many galaxies including luminous and ultraluminous systems (U/LIRGs), as well as merging systems.
