Spectrophotometric observations at high signal-to-noise ratio were obtained of a complete sample of 348 DA white dwarfs from the Palomar Green (PG) Survey. Fits of observed Balmer lines to synthetic spectra calculated from pure-hydrogen model atmospheres were used to obtain robust values of Teff, log g, masses, radii, and cooling ages. The luminosity function of the sample, weighted by 1/Vmax, was obtained and compared with other determinations. Incompleteness of the sample due to selection by… Expand

DA white dwarfs from the LSS-GAC survey DR1: the preliminary luminosity and mass functions and formation rate
Modern large-scale surveys have allowed the identification of large numbers of white dwarfs. However, these surveys are subject to complicated target selection algorithms, which make it almostExpand
The mass and luminosity functions and the formation rate of DA white dwarfs in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
Aims. The SDSS Data Release 1 includes 1833 DA white dwarfs (WDs) and forms the largest homogeneous sample of WDs. This sample provides the best opportunity to study the statistical properties ofExpand

Gaia photometry for white dwarfs
Context. White dwarfs can be used to study the structure and evolution of the Galaxy by analysing their luminosity function and initial mass function. Among them, the very cool white dwarfs provideExpand
A SPECTROSCOPIC SURVEY AND ANALYSIS OF BRIGHT, HYDROGEN-RICH WHITE DWARFS*
We have conducted a spectroscopic survey of over 1300 bright (V ≤ 17.5), hydrogen-rich white dwarfs based largely on the last published version of the McCook & Sion catalog. The complete results fromExpand

We present the first detailed photometric and spectroscopic study of the white dwarfs (WDs) in the field of the ~225 Myr old (log τcl = 8.35) open cluster NGC 1039 (M34) as part of the ongoingExpand
On the Interpretation of High-Velocity White Dwarfs as Members of the Galactic Halo
A detailed analysis of 32 of the 38 halo white dwarf candidates identified by Oppenheimer et al. is presented, based on model atmosphere fits to observed energy distributions built from optical BVRIExpand
