Sepsid flies (Diptera: Sepsidae) are important model insects for sexual selection research. In order to develop mitochondrial (mt) genome data for this significant group, we sequenced the first complete mt genome of the sepsid fly Nemopoda mamaevi Ozerov, 1997. The circular 15,878 bp mt genome is typical of Diptera, containing all 37 genes usually present in bilaterian animals. We discovered inaccurate annotations of fly mt genomes previously deposited on GenBank and thus re-annotated all…
Complete mitochondrial genome of a Neotropical dobsonfly Chloronia mirifica Navás, 1925 (Megaloptera: Corydalidae), with phylogenetic implications for the genus Chloronia Banks, 1908.
TLDR
The phylogenetic analysis based on all 13 PCGs and two rRNA genes of the mt genome recovers Chloronia to be the sister group of Corydalus Latreille, 1802.
Mitochondrial genomes of the hoverflies Episyrphus balteatus and Eupeodes corollae (Diptera: Syrphidae), with a phylogenetic analysis of Muscomorpha
TLDR
The study demonstrated the power of the complete mitochondrial gene set for phylogenetic analysis in Muscomorpha and supported the monophyly of five species within the Syrphidae (Syrphoidea).
The Phylogeny and Evolutionary Timescale of Muscoidea (Diptera: Brachycera: Calyptratae) Inferred from Mitochondrial Genomes
TLDR
The first two mt genomes for the families Fanniidae (Euryomma sp.) and Anthomyiidae (Delia platura (Meigen, 1826) are presented and phylogenetic analyses containing of these newly sequenced mt genomes plus 15 other species representative of dipteran diversity are conducted to address the internal relationship of Muscoidea and its systematic position.
Characterization and Phylogenetic Implications of the Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Syrphidae
TLDR
The phylogenetic relationship between K. angustiabdomena and V. nigricans with related lineages was reconstructed using Bayesian inference and Maximum-likelihood analyses and the monophyly of each family considered within Muscomorpha was confirmed.
Comparative Mt Genomics of the Tipuloidea (Diptera: Nematocera: Tipulomorpha) and Its Implications for the Phylogeny of the Tipulomorpha
TLDR
Trees inferred by Bayesian methods strongly support a sister-group relationship between Trichoceridae and Tipuloidea, and phylogenetic trees indicate that the family Limoniidae is a paraphyletic group.
Comparative analysis of four complete mitogenomes from hoverfly genus Eristalinus with phylogenetic implications
TLDR
The phylogenetic relationships among the four Eristalinus species combined with the published mitogenomes of SyRphidae were reconstructed using the maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference methods, which support the monophyly of the subfamily Syrphinae but do not support that of thesubfamily Eristalinae.
A phylogenomic study of Steganinae fruit flies (Diptera: Drosophilidae): strong gene tree heterogeneity and evidence for monophyly
TLDR
Gene tree discordance was possibly the result of introgression, suggesting complex branching processes during the early evolution of Drosophilidae with short speciation intervals and gene flow and highlights the importance of genomic data in elucidating contentious phylogenetic relationships.
The complete mitochondrial genome of Syrphus ribesii (Diptera: Syrphoidea: Syrphidae)
TLDR
The phylogenetic tree showed that Syrphus ribesii was closely related to Eupeodes corollae, and theSyrphidae and Pipunculidae constituted a monophyletic group within the SyRphoidea.

Structure and evolution of the mitochondrial genome of Exorista sorbillans: the Tachinidae (Diptera: Calyptratae) perspective
TLDR
Phylogenetic topologies based on the amino acid sequences, supporting that E. sorbillans (Tachinidae) is clustered with strains of Calliphoridae and Oestridae, and superfamily Oestroidea are polyphyletic groups with Muscidae in a clade.
Mitochondrial Genome Sequence and Expression Profiling for the Legume Pod Borer Maruca vitrata (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)
TLDR
The assembly of the 14,054 bp near complete sequencing of the mitochondrial genome of the legume pod borer, Maruca vitrata, which was subsequently used to estimate divergence and relationships within the lepidopteran lineage, indicates that mitochondrial processing mechanisms vary between arthropod species, and that it is crucial to use transcriptional information to obtain full annotation of mitochondrial genomes.
The complete mitochondrial genome of the gall-forming fly, Fergusonina taylori Nelson and Yeates (Diptera: Fergusoninidae)
TLDR
The mitochondrial genome of Fergusonina presented here may prove valuable for resolving the sister group to the Fergusoninidae, and expands the available mtDNA data sources for acalyptrates overall.
The Mitochondrial Genome of Elodia flavipalpis Aldrich (Diptera: Tachinidae) and the Evolutionary Timescale of Tachinid Flies
TLDR
Using a Bayesian relaxed clock calibrated with fossil data, it is estimated that Tachinidae originated in the middle Eocene and maximum-likelihood and Bayesian methods supported the monophyly of both Tach inidae and superfamily Oestroidea.
The complete mitochondrial genome of the leafminer Liriomyza trifolii (Diptera: Agromyzidae)
Liriomyza trifolii (Diptera: Agromyzidae) is one of the most economically significant pests in the world. In this paper we present sequence data for the complete mitochondrial genome of L. trifolii.
Comparative analysis of the mitochondrial genomes in Drosophila virilis species group (Diptera: Drosophilidae)
TLDR
Comparison analysis of mitogenomics data of the Drosophila virilis group is presented based on newly obtained complete mt-genome sequence of Drosphila littoralis, previously published mt- Genomes of D. Virilis and fragments of mt- genomes of other Drosophile species belonging to the viril is group to overview the evolution of the genus.
The mitochondrial genome of the primary screwworm fly Cochliomyia hominivorax (Diptera: Calliphoridae)
TLDR
The complete sequence of the mitochondrial genome of the screwworm Cochliomyia hominivorax was determined and the identification of diagnostic restriction sites and the correlation with previous RFLP analysis are discussed.
Molecular phylogeny of the Calyptratae (Diptera: Cyclorrhapha) with an emphasis on the superfamily Oestroidea and the position of Mystacinobiidae and McAlpine's fly
TLDR
A higher‐level phylogenetic hypothesis is proposed for the Calyptratae based on an extensive DNA sequence dataset for 11 noncalyptrate outgroups and 247 calyptrate species representing all commonly accepted families in the Oestroidea and Hippoboscoidea, as well as those of the muscoid grade.
