It is argued that human consciousness is likely to have emerged during the self-consistent evolution of the physical universe, through the gradual accumulation of biological entities' ability to tap into the intrinsic non-deterministic potentiality in the global nonequilibrium phase transitions occurring continually in the quantum universe. Due to the fact that the matter and energy content participating in these global phase transitions is a continuum, there are in effect infinite degrees-of…

On the Nature of Quantum Phenomena
It is shown that a coherent understanding of all quantized phenomena, including those governed by unitary evolution equations as well as those related to irreversible quantum measurements, can be
Secular Evolution of Spiral Galaxies. II. Formation of Quasi-Stationary Spiral Modes
In this second of a series of three papers, we demonstrate that the kind of spiral patterns in disk galaxies which can remain quasi-stationary on the timescale of a Hubble time are spontaneously
The Large, the Small and the Human Mind by Roger Penrose. Cambridge University Press, 1997, xviii + 185 pp. £14.95
From the Publisher: Roger Penrose's views on the large-scale physics of the universe, the small-scale world of quantum physics and the physics of the mind are controversial and widely discussed. The
Evidence for wavelike energy transfer through quantum coherence in photosynthetic systems
TLDR
Previous two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy investigations of the FMO bacteriochlorophyll complex are extended, and direct evidence is obtained for remarkably long-lived electronic quantum coherence playing an important part in energy transfer processes within this system is obtained.
Emmy Noether's Wonderful Theorem
A beautiful piece of mathematics, Noether's Theorem touches on every aspect of physics. Emmy Noether proved her theorem in 1915 and published it in 1918. This profound concept demonstrates the
The importance of quantum decoherence in brain processes
It is shown how environmental decoherence plays an essential and constructive role in a quantum mechanical theory of brain process that has significant explanatory power.
Coherently wired light-harvesting in photosynthetic marine algae at ambient temperature
TLDR
Observations provide compelling evidence for quantum-coherent sharing of electronic excitation across the 5-nm-wide proteins under biologically relevant conditions, suggesting that distant molecules within the photosynthetic proteins are ‘wired’ together by quantum coherence for more efficient light-harvesting in cryptophyte marine algae.

Mind, matter, and quantum mechanics
A theory of psychophysical phenomena is proposed. It resolves simultaneously four basic problems of science, namely the problems of the connections between:(1) mind and matter,(2) quantum theory and
