OBJECTIVE This study examined the effects of palm oil tocotrienol-rich fractions on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. METHODS Animals were divided into three groups: (i) normal non-diabetic (NDM), (ii) diabetic treated (tocotrienol-rich fractions - TRF) and (iii) diabetic untreated (non-TRF). The treatment group received oral administration of tocotrienol-rich fractions (200 mg/kg body weight) daily for eight weeks. The normal non-diabetic and the diabetic untreated groups were fed standard… Expand
Tocotrienol-Rich Fraction of Palm Oil Reduced Pancreatic Damage and Oxidative Stress in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats
TLDR
TRF was able to reduce pancreatic damage and oxidative stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats and the process was probably mediated by its antioxidant effects. Expand
The Ameliorative Effects of a Tocotrienol-Rich Fraction on the AGE-RAGE Axis and Hypertension in High-Fat-Diet-Fed Rats with Metabolic Syndrome
TLDR
Treatment with a TRF exhibited protective effects on the cardiovascular and liver health in addition to the amelioration of plasma redox imbalance and AGE-RAGE activation in high-fat-diet-treated rats. Expand
Effects of palm oil tocotrienol-rich fraction on biochemical and morphological alterations of liver in fenitrothion-treated rats.
TLDR
TRF supplementation showed potential protective effect towards biochemical and ultrastructural changes in liver induced by fenitrothion, a type of OP pesticide. Expand
Effect of Co-Administration of Vitamin E Isoforms d- α-Tocopherol and d-δ- Tocotrienol Rich Fraction on the Healing of Skin Wounds in Diabetic Rats
TLDR
Oral co-administration of d-α-tocopherol and d-δ-TRF promotes skin wound healing in both healthy and diabetic rats through its antioxidant potency, therefore suggested that vitamin E isoforms hold promising future in the effective management of wounds in both otherwise healthy and diabetics. Expand
Protective effects of tocotrienols against lipid-induced nephropathy in experimental type-2 diabetic rats by modulation in TGF-β expression.
TLDR
TRF ameliorated lipid induced nephropathy in type-2 diabetes by its hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic and antioxidant activities as well as by modulation of TGF-β to prevent increased expression of collagen type IV and fibrinogen. Expand
Tocotrienol-rich vitamin E from palm oil (Tocovid) and its effects in diabetes and diabetic retinopathy: a pilot phase II clinical trial
TLDR
A novel technique to quantify retinal hemorrhage had a strong positive correlation with conventional grading of DR in both eyes at baseline and at the end of the study, and Tocovid is a potential adjunct to current treatment of DR and fatty liver disease. Expand
Study on the influence of palm oil on blood and liver biochemical parameters, beta-carotene and tocochromanols content as well as antioxidant activity in rats.
In the ongoing discussion on the health properties of palm oil, a study of the effect a diet supplemented with palm oil on blood and liver biochemical parameters, beta-carotene and tocochromanolsExpand
Comparative hypoglycemic and nephroprotective effects of tocotrienol rich fraction (TRF) from palm oil and rice bran oil against hyperglycemia induced nephropathy in type 1 diabetic rats.
TLDR
PO-TRF was found to be more effective hypoglycemic and nephroprotective agent in DN than RBO- TRF. Expand

TLDR
It is suggested that TRF might be useful as a beneficial nutraceutical to prevent skeletal muscle atrophy associated with diabetes by regulating insulin signaling via AMPK/SIRT1/PGC1α pathways in type 2 diabetic mice. Expand
Protective Effect of Palm Oil-Derived Tocotrienol-Rich Fraction Against Retinal Neurodegenerative Changes in Rats with Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Retinopathy
TLDR
Oral TRF supplementation protects against retinal degenerative changes and an increase in VEGF expression in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetic retinopathy, and similar effects were not observed after topical administration of TRF. Expand

TLDR
The results suggest that TRF supplementation has significant health benefits through the modulation of physiological functions that include various atherogenic lipid profiles and antioxidants in hypercholesterolemia. Expand
