The emulsion polymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was conducted at 80 ○C, using a series of initiators and using either sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or a mixture of SDS and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as the emulsifier.
