From 2000-10, the Dominican Republic sustained high levels of economic growth. However, without a standardized poverty measurement methodology, it was difficult to assess the effect of this growth on poverty. To address this, the government requested assistance from the World Bank which helped convene a technical, inter-institutional poverty committee that was highly participatory and transparent to define the countries new poverty measurement methodology.
