The material examined came from autopsies performed on fortythree patients who died a t various stages of illness, as shown in the table. The ages ranged from 2 to 73 years. There were 36 males and 7 females. 5 patients had cirrhosis of the liver, 9 a mixed infection. In 19 cases, serum was administered in varying quantities; 1 was t reated with salvarsan.
