The Devil ’ s Curve


Since 1750, the Devil’s Curve has been a useful tool to study plane curves and some of their properties. In this text, I will first describe the history of the curve. Secondly, I will give several equivalent ways to describe it, in Cartesian and polar coordinates, as well as two parametrizations. I will end this text with a description of some of the geometric properties of the curve: its asymptotes, form and inverse curve.
