Early in 1937, a photostated copy of a document sent by Mrs. Maxfield Parrish, of St. Simon's Island, Georgia, to the Department of Anthropology, Northwestern University, was transmitted to me for possible translation and comment. Copies of this manuscript had previously been sent to several institutions in the United States and England, and had also been forwarded to the famous university of El'azhar in Cairo and to South Africa, but it had never been satisfactorily deciphered.
